They say that no matter how old you become when you are with your
siblings, you revert back to childhood. Your sister is your mirror,
shining back at you with a world of possibilities. She is your
witness, who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway.
Your brother is your partner in crime, your midnight companion. He is
your teacher, your defence attorney, your personal press agent, even
your shrink. A brother-sister bond of togetherness is priceless and to
make this bond even stronger this auspicious festival “Raksha Bandhan”
This is an ancient Hindu festival, means “a knot of protection”, a
symbolic renewal of one of the most beautiful emotion in humans. On
this auspicious day, the sister ties a rakhi (sacred thread) on her
brother’s right wrist and prays for his prosperous future and in
return, brother promises to protect his sister from any harm and under
The irony here is they would make each other’s lives hell but they
would also love each other unconditionally. It leaves a smile on my
face when I think of those trifling fights I used to have with my
brother and then suddenly made up. He is the shadow of all the
beautiful memories of my childhood. Soon the time will fly by, things
will change, but our life will remain rooted in the memories we have
shared with our siblings who have seen us through it all. The memories may fade away with passing time but the love we share will only grow.
This Raksha Bandhan may god fulfil all your dreams and make your bond
with your siblings grow even stronger.
A very happy Raksha Bandhan!!
